I’ve been tutoring since I was a high school student. I realized early on that I could pick up information quickly, and I soon realized that I can also explain what I knew to other people in ways that they can understand it. I went to Florida A&M University for my bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. Then I went to the University of Pennsylvania to earn a juris doctor and MBA. My tutoring experience includes general middle school subjects, SAT prep, AP English and history, calculus, physics, project management, and high school chemistry. I can also tutor students in biology, geometry, comparative literature, pre-calculus, study skills and organization, ACT test preparation, and more. I worked for Chicago Public Schools, and I can credit my nephew for inspiring me to get back into tutoring. I enjoy helping students improve their understanding of subjects. I’m very patient, and I can work with students at their pace for as long as it takes to help them work through anything they are struggling with and better understand it. But my best quality as a tutor is my listening skill. In my free time, I enjoy participating in outdoor sports, going on to the movies, cooking great food, and the performance arts.

I’m a tutor with a broad academic background, and I can help students learn many things. My specialty is helping students become better writers. My time in tutoring and as an editor has given me the experience of working with students of all ages and abilities. I’ve helped kindergarten students develop literacy skills. I’ve helped high school students write policy essays for admission to top colleges. I’ve been a TA, a workshop teacher, and a tutor of literacy for at risk and low income students. I’ve also help students who claimed to hate writing and reading and transformed them into excellent, confident writers. Overall, my students and been very successful in writing and in other topics that I’ve tutored them in. I’m looking forward to helping students in essay writing and editing, English grammar and syntax, literature, phonics, reading, history, study skills and organization, math, and in test preparation for the ACT, PSAT, SAT, HSPT, and other admissions and assessment exams. When I have free time, of course I love to write. I enjoy writing fiction in particular. I also am a voracious reader. Outside of that, another activity I enjoy is riding my bike around Chicago.

I’m a tutor with over 10 years of experience working with students at the high school level and below. I started tutoring as a teenager, working with both my classmates and younger children. This includes students with special needs disabilities, non-native English speakers, and gifted students. I graduated from the University of Michigan, where I studied social science and Latin American studies. I’m currently in the master’s education program at DePaul University, where I learn about teaching secondary students with diverse backgrounds.
