What makes Columbus tutoring different from studying in the classroom?
The individualized attention a student receives during private tutor sessions is nearly impossible to replicate in the classroom, where the teacher must divide attention between several students. In a classroom environment, students are forced to learn at a pace that is often too fast for them to comprehend complex concepts. A private tutor can make sure to move at a pace that facilitates the student’s learning and gives the student the opportunity to fully grasp a concept before moving on to the next one.

Scott
I graduated from Drexel University of Philadelphia recently. I moved here after high school with the intention of learning the business world. I grew up in Bexley, where my parents both owned and managed businesses. The city gave me a love of learning, art, and culture. After graduation from DU, I began working part time for my family and preparing for law school. Since 2003, I have been working with children on the autism spectrum to help them learn and succeed. I strive to provide them with creative, fun, and thought-provoking sessions that cater to their individual needs. I tutor students with learning disabilities as well. It is very rewarding to see them fully grasp a concept they had been having trouble with. I tutor students in a variety of subjects, such as public speaking, European history, English grammar and syntax, world religions, and American history. I can offer sessions for elementary through college level students. I can work with students to prepare them for their standardized tests, as well as to improve their college application essays and sharpen their study skills. Through hard work and dedication, I believe any student can succeed. Outside of teaching, I love to cook and bake, go running, and work out.

I recently completed a four-month study abroad course in Costa Rica, where I learned more about Spanish and Latin American cultures. While I was perfecting my own Spanish skills, I also worked as a tutor and helped my peers gain a better understanding of the language. As someone who’s taken a keen interest in Spanish, I also helped translate a handbook from English to Spanish, as well as translate quarterly newsletters to Spanish. For me, there’s no greater reward than having the opportunity to help people improve their lives, which is why I’ve spent a large portion of my adult life volunteering with children. In this capacity, I worked as a tutor and helped young students gain a better understanding of their classroom material. Along with tutoring Spanish and English, I also taught basic life skills that can be helpful outside of the classroom. In my opinion, part of what makes a good teacher is having good classroom management. For this reason, I like to teach in a way that’s fun and engaging, but where students also benefit from a structured learning program that promotes patience and discipline. When I’m not practicing my Spanish or teaching, I like cooking, reading, and crocheting.
